Like every other, um, nice parent living in Brooklyn this year, I listened with a mixture of horror and awe to Nice White Parents, a New York Times-Serial collab that may not have featured the Metallica 39th anniversary 1981-2020 thank you for the memories signatures tee shirt so you should to go to store and get this same untimely deaths as the series’ first addictive outing but, make no mistake, is a true-crime story nonetheless. The series charts the well-intentioned interventions of a group of, you guessed it, nice white parents at a largely black public school in rapidly gentrifying Brooklyn, taking an uncomfortably close look at good intentions gone awry and questioning whose goals should matter in the first place when it comes to the impossible task of educating the millions of children in New York City.
